About Asilo Café

Asilo means Kindergarten in Italian, it is a name chosen to reflect the ethos of everything we do. Not only does it refer to our location alongside Harton Village Kindergarten, but how we aim to make a visit to Asilo Café as enjoyable experience for children as it is for adults.

At Asilo Café we are dedicated to being child friendly, providing a unique atmosphere that both parents and children can enjoy. Opened in September 2016 we have been serving fresh food, hot drinks and delicious cakes to our community alongside our Soft Play area and the special events we regularly host for children.

We partner with both the nursery and local activity groups to provide unique experiences for our guests and often host our own events for children in our community to enjoy. We have had visits from many of children's favourite characters including Disney princesses, super heroes, Pudsey Bear and many more, hosted many creative, musical and messy play events with local activity groups, and through us children can also enjoy the Soft Play and Sensory facilities found across at Harton Village Kindergarten.

Food & Drink

We serve Rington's Tea and Coffee, one of the nation's favourite speciality hot drink brands, ensuring that every drink we serve is rich and full of flavour, and that you can be sure you will be ordering a quality drink every time. We also serve a variety of milkshakes and hot chocolates of our own creation, such as our ever popular Oreo, Nutella flavours and our special Unicorn milkshakes. We keep a full copy of our menu online so you can see what we offer at Asilo Café before you arrive.

To make sure all our guests enjoy their time at Asilo Café, we provide our own Children's Menu where they can enjoy a range of flavours and healthy snacks. We serve an Afternoon Tea made specifically for children so they can enjoy the same meals as their parents but served in a way that is suitable for them. For our parents we also serve a variety of hot and cold food, with a selection of breakfast items and soups of the day available. All of our food is prepared fresh in store every day.

The speciality of Asilo Café, however, is our cakes. Made fresh every morning by our chef, Colin, we serve a wide variety of types and flavours which change daily. You can see some of the amazing creations he has made on our Facebook page where we regularly share photos of what's happening at the Café!

Food Hygiene

On January 8th 2019 we had our most recent food hygiene inspection and we are very delighted to have achieved a grade 5, the highest possible grading. This result highlights the care and effort that goes into everything we make at Asilo Café and shows that you will get a quality meal every time with us.

We would like to extend a huge thank you and congratulations to all of our staff for achieving this fantastic result!

Charity Fundraising

Speaking of Colin, our head chef may be well known to many of our guests as he is one of the most well known faces of the Great North Run. Better known as the Big Pink Dress, Colin has been raising money for charity at events up and down the country. He has been donning the Big Pink Dress and running to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now since 2014 and continues to be one of the great local icons of charity sporting events.
